PPT Karaoke is a small, independently run web game. This page explains exactly what data it handles and what it doesn't. It's written in plain language because you should be able to understand it without a lawyer.

The short version

You can play without an account. The game listens to your microphone during a round, but it does not record or store audio. There are no analytics, no advertising, and no trackers. Nothing is sold or shared with anyone.

Playing without an account

You can play a full game without signing up. If you don't create an account, nothing about your game is saved anywhere after you close the tab.

Your microphone

The game asks for microphone access during a round. It's used for the applause meter, and optionally for a word counter if you switch that on.

The applause meter. Your microphone feeds a live audio analyser inside your browser, which measures loudness to drive the on-screen crowd meter. The audio is never recorded, never saved to a file, and never sent anywhere. It exists only as sound levels being measured in real time and is discarded immediately. Only a numeric score reaches the game. If you're signed in, the loudest reading from each round is saved with your game history — see below.

The word counter (off by default). There's an optional feature that counts how many words and filler words a presenter uses. It is switched off unless you turn it on.

If you do turn it on, it works using your browser's built-in speech recognition — a feature of your browser, not of this game. In Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers, this works by sending your microphone audio to Google's speech recognition servers for transcription. That transmission is performed by your browser and is governed by Google's privacy policy, not this one. This game receives only two numbers back — a word count and a filler-word count — and never sees or stores the transcript. If you'd rather no audio left your machine, leave this feature off; everything else in the game works exactly the same without it.

If you create an account

Accounts are optional and exist so you can keep a game history.

Sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication, a Google service. If you sign up with an email and password, Firebase stores your email address and a secured version of your password — this game never sees your password. If you sign in with Google, Firebase receives your email address, display name, and Google profile photo.

Alongside that, this game stores a username you choose, a display name, and an optional avatar emoji. Your username is also kept in a separate lookup list so no two people can claim the same one.

Your game history

If you're signed in, each finished game is saved to your account: the date, the list of player names, and for each round, who presented and which deck they got, whether it was marked NSFW, any awards earned, the peak crowd-meter reading, and how long the round took.

Speech transcripts, word counts, and raw reaction data are never written to the database. They exist only in your browser during a game and are gone when it ends.

Feedback

If you send feedback, the form stores your message, your name and email address as you entered them, and, if you're signed in, your account ID. If you're not signed in, no account is linked.

What this site does not do

  • No analytics. No Google Analytics, no tracking pixels, no third-party tracking scripts of any kind.
  • No advertising, and no data sold or shared with advertisers.
  • No third-party fonts or embeds. Everything the site loads comes from pptkaraoke.app, so no outside company sees your visit.
  • No cookies set by this game. Your browser stores a sign-in session locally if you're logged in, handled by Firebase's sign-in system so you stay logged in between visits.
  • No audio recordings, ever.

Deleting your data

You can delete your account from your profile page. This permanently removes your saved game history, your profile, your username reservation, and your sign-in credentials. It cannot be undone.

If you'd rather ask for a copy of your data or have it deleted manually, email the address below.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the data held about you, correct it, delete it, or object to how it's used. Email privacy@pptkaraoke.app and I'll handle it.

Where data is stored

Data is stored using Google Firebase, which may process and store it on servers outside your country, including in the United States.
